With the F1 season just about to begin, the drivers will be under immense pressure to fight for the top spot in the World Drivers' Championship.

Each team consists of two main drivers that will be taking part in each race. The combined points of each driver will be added together and, at the end of the season, the team with the most number of points will win the Constructors' Championship.

The team takes care of the cars, the engines and, the strategies that go into every race. There have been many legendary teams and constructors that have been part of the Formula 1 so far, but there are only a few who have performed extraordinarily.

Here are the five best constructors in the history of Formula 1.


#5 Mercedes/Red Bull, 4 times

Mercedes and, Red Bull have been dominating Formula 1 since 2010. Red Bull won the Constructor's Championship from 2010-2013.

Sebastian Vettel helped them win it, with the German winning the Driver's Championship four consecutive times before signing for Ferrari in 2016. Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen, now drive for Red Bull.

This season Mercedes look really strong yet again to win the Constructors' Championship but, with Vettel and Raikkonen in Ferrari and, Verstappen in Red Bull, there might be serious competition.

#4 Lotus, Seven times

Lotus is an English constructor that dominated most of the 1960's and 1970's. They won a total of seven Constructor's Championships in the span of two decades.

Some of the notable drivers that were part of Team Lotus were Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, Mika Hakkinen, Nelson Piquet, just to name a few.

But. it was Graham Hill and Jim Clark, who really took Lotus' domination to the next level by winning four Drivers' Championships in the 1960's.

Mario Andretti was the last driver to win the Championship for Lotus and earn them a Constructor's Championship as well.

Since then, Lotus has fallen behind to other constructors like Ferrari, McLaren etc.

#3 McLaren, Eight times

McLaren is one of the most popular constructors' in the history of Formula 1. Along with Williams, they dominated the entire 1980's and the 1990's.

The UK based team won 8 Constructor's Championships.

Emerson Fittipaldi won his second Drivers' Championship in the year 1974 with McLaren, earning them a Constructors' Championship as well.

He won his first Championship with Lotus in 1972.

Other notable drivers who won the Championship for McLaren were James Hunt, Niki Lauda, Ayrton Senna and, Alain Prost.

The last driver to win the Championship for the British team was Lewis Hamilton back in 2008.

McLaren announced last year that they will be splitting from Honda, who was their engine partner and, will be signing a new contract with Renault.

Fernando Alonso and, Stoffel Vandoorne will be with McLaren in the present season.

#2 Williams, Nine times

As mentioned earlier, McLaren and Williams both dominated two decades in Formula 1 history. Williams is another UK based company that was formed in 1977.

Williams won their first Championship in 1980. They have won a total of 9 Championships so far.

Alan Jones was the first driver to win the Drivers' Championship with Williams in 1980. Other notable drivers who were part of the English team were Nelson Piquet, Alain Prost and, Jaques Villeneuve.

From 1983-1987, they had partnered up with Honda. From 1989-1997, Renault took over Honda as the new engine partners.

This season, Mercedes will be providing them with the engines. Lance Stroll will be one of the drivers with Williams this season and, Sergey Sirotkin will be replacing the retired Felipe Massa.

#1 Ferrari, 16 times

By far, the most popular constructors of all time, Ferrari have won a total of 16 Constructor's Championship.

They won Championships in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and, 2000's. The most popular driver to be part of the Ferrari team is Michael Schumacher, who won five consecutive Championships from 2000-2004.

Although Mika Hakkinen from McLaren won the Championship in 1999, it was Ferrari who won the Constructors' Championship.

Schumacher and Eddie Irvine, finished second and third in the final Grand Prix respectively, making Ferrari the Champions for the first time that decade.

In the present season, Ferrari is looking very strong and could give a good competition to Mercedes and, Red Bull.

Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel are the current drivers for the Italian company.
