Video: Renault unveil new F1 engine

Renault unveiled its engine for the 2014 season in Paris on Friday.

Rob White, Technical Director General of Renault Sport F1:

“The single most important innovation is the turbo machine coupled to an electric motor, so the combination of a turbo charger and the motor generating unit that allows us to recover energy from the turbo charger.”

Alain Prost Renault ambassador and quadruple world pilot champion:

” The biggest challenge is obviously to show to the world that formula one is getting closer to the automobile industry and we are using smaller engine but with the new technology much closer to what we are going to get more and more on the road – and I think more or less the same power using two electrical engines but having a reduction of fuel consumption by 40% which is quiet amazing and only formula one can have this type of challenge.”

Christian Horner Team Principal of the Infiniti Red Bull Racing:

“I think there are two majors challenges – one is incorporating it into the car and designing into the car and I think the other challenge is operating the engine because we are limited with the amount of fuel because we are limited to hundred kilos of fuel at the start in the Grand Prix next year. So having fuel efficiency and how we use that fuel in the race is going to be very, very important.”
