With the IOA returning to the Olympic fold last week, the country can now also be represented by Indian fencers, as the suspension on Fencing Association of India (FAI) has been revoked by the International Fencing Federation.

The FAI had been suspended by FIE (International Fencing Federation) following the suspension of the IOA by the IOC (International Olympic Committee). As the suspension on IOA was lifted, FIE also decided to revoke the suspension on FAI.

“We got a letter from the FIE the day IOC lifted the ban on the IOA, saying that we are no longer under suspension. Then the FIE Executive Board meeting on Feb 14-15 ratified the decision,” FAI secretary Sanjay Pradhan said.

The suspension has been revoked in time for the Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship, enabling four Indian fencers to participate in the same which will be held in Amman, Jordan from 7th to the 16th of March.

“We can now heave a sigh of relief because our four fencers can now represent the country in the Asian Championships,” he said.

As of now, only the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation remains suspended by its corresponding international federation.

The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) also re-instated the Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI) on the 12th of February.

“The WTF would like to inform you that the Taekwondo Federation of India has been reinstated, with immediate effect, as a Full Member of the WTF, with the right to participate in all WTF events, including General Assembly with the voting right,” the WTF had said in a letter to TFI.

“We note that 11 Indian athletes participated in the 2013 WTF World Taekwondo Championships Puebla under the WTF flag. Now, with the TFI’s full status restored, it is our hope that Taekwondo in India will see further positive developments,” the WTF had said.
