2014 FIFA World Cup: Brazil and Argentina fans involved in a street fight

Brazil and Argentina football supporters were seen clashing against each other on the streets early Saturday hurling beer bottles and abuses at each other.

The Police have confirmed that the clash took place at around 2 A.M in Belo Horizonte where Argentina played Iran in the World Cup 2014. Reports of any injuries or arrests have not emerged yet from the site and there isn’t clarity on who initiated the fight.

Eyewitness videos of the incident show Argentina fans waving their national flags and throwing beer bottles at the Brazil fans approximately 50 metres away. The Brazilian fans responded with their own array of bottles towards the Argentinian fans while some supporters took cover under the huge beach umbrellas.

The violence induced boos from the bystanders, however hordes of Brazilians supporters their Argentinian counterparts with shouts of “We’re five-time champs!”

The two South American giants have a long history of intense rivalry between them and with Brazil hosting the current World Cup, it is sure to invoke past emotions. If both the countries pass the group stages and win their subsequent knockout matches, Brazil and Argentina have a chance to meet in the finals of the World Cup 2014.
