Alessandro Nesta to retire at the end of the season

Alessandro Nesta, the former Lazio and AC Milan defender, who now plays for Montreal Impact, has announced that he will hang up his boots at the end of the MLS season in Canada.

The 37-year-old was quoted as saying by Eurosport:“ Now I want to try being a coach. I think I’ll rest for a few months before I start studying.”

Nesta, who has won the 2006 World Cup with Italy also has three Serie A titles, two Champions Leagues, a Club World Cup, three Coppa Italia trophies, a Cup Winners’ Cup, three European Super Cups, four Italian Super Cups in his 20 years with Lazio and Milan. The former Italian international, who retired from national duties in 2008, spent nine years at Lazio before moving to the San Siro for another 10 years.

The centre-back, a four time member of the annual UEFA Team of the Year, also won the Canadian championship after switching to Montreal Impact in 2012.
