Arsenal have opened up new talks with Real Madrid over young striker Alvaro Morata and could be set to sign him should they agree a ‘buy-back clause’ in his contract, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Gunners have been linked to Morata all season and it was thought that they would attempt to sign him in the January transfer window but Real Madrid were not willing to let him leave.

However, after a lack of chances in the first-team, Morata is set to leave the Spanish giants in the summer transfer window as Arsenal look for back-up options to help take the workload off of Olivier Giroud.

Real are believed to be ready to do business for around £8 million, on the condition they can buy Morata back at a fixed price in two years’ time.

Wenger rates the player highly and sees him as a future Emirates star.

The Londoners are likely to look at a big-name purchase as well as younger players, with Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic in the frame. Robert Lewandowski is joining Bayern Munich in the summer so Mandzukic may well leave the club.

Nuremberg striker Josip Drmic is another target and could join the north London club for around £6 million.

Morata has scored four goals in 16 La Liga appearances this season.
