England football legend Paul Gascoigne recently revealed that Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger helped pay for his medical care and treatment. According to the report, the North London club paid £50,000 to treat the ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.

Gasciogne, who has had trouble with mental and emotional problems and also alcoholism, has been through many rehabilitation programs and has also been sectioned under the Mental Health Act last month.

‘Gazza’ as he is more popularly known played for England between 1988 and 1998, and also for Arsenal’s derby rivals Tottenham between 1988 and 1992.

Wenger and Arsenal helped pay for his treatment

47-year-old Gasciogne revealed how Arsenal and Wenger helped him out.

“I rang up physio Gary Lewin (then at Arsenal) and told him I wasn't feeling great.

“He said to go to (the) hospital as he feared it was pneumonia.”

He then added: “Wenger then agreed to arrange £28,000 to pay for treatment. Arsenal also paid £22,000 when I had hip treatment.”

Tottenham made me pay to watch a game

Gasciogne also revealed how his former club Tottenham told him to pay for a ticket when they played Real Madrid in the Champions League at White Hart Lane in 2011.

“I wanted to watch Spurs against Real Madrid and got told they only had two tickets for £60,” he said.

“I'd have to watch from under the directors' box with some players who played 30 years before me.”

I’m getting back to a healthy lifestyle

The England legend says he is also trying to get back to a healthy living.

“There is nothing wrong with me - as long as I don't pick up a can,” he said

He also mentioned he was doing '800 press-ups, 800 sit-ups and 800 squats per day' in a bid to stay fit.
