Dortmund eye Arsenal target who scores more than Messi

Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa celebrates his goal against Levante with teammate Diego Godin during their Spanish first division soccer match in Madrid

Fresh from the news that Robert Lewandowski is close to signing a deal with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund are rumoured to be looking to Diego Costa to replace the want-away Pole. Premier League duo Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked with Costa, but The Express report that Jurgen Klopp has identified the Atletico forward as the man to lead Dortmund’s frontline after Lewandowski.

Dortmund are set to lose Lewandowski at the end of the season, with the forward believed to be announcing his move on January 2nd. Lewandowski is the German side’s top scorer this season, with 11 goals, and netted 24 Bundesliga goals last season.

The Pole will prove a hard act to replace, but Klopp is reported to be turning to Costa to plug the hole left by Lewandowski. Brazil international Costa has scored 19 goals this season, making him one of Europe’s hottest properties.

His goals have led to links with both Arsenal and Chelsea, who are both in the market for a top class forward. However news of Dortmund’s interest adds another team into the mix, as the race for Costa’s signature hots up. Atletico are keen to keep hold of their talisman, but are powerless to resist should a team trigger his £34 million release clause.
