Arsenal must sign more players to become a world class team

Wenger still has some work to do

Wenger needs to make a few more signings to strengthen his squad

Arsenal at the top of the Premier League is one of the biggest surprises of the second half of 2013.

Over the past few years the London club has seen their best players depart for clubs like Barcelona and both the Manchester clubs. The sale of Robin Van Persie to Manchester United was a massive nail in Arsenal’s coffin, which they have still to fully recover from.

Arsene Wenger had become increasingly rigid in the transfer market, which was one of the main reasons why RVP left the club. This year the Frenchman finally woke up from his sleep and brought Mesut Ozil to the Emirates, breaking a transfer record in the process, and that opened up the team at once.

Mathieu Flamini was also a smart re-acquisition and Frenchman has brought some much needed stability to the Gunners.

Aaron Ramsey has gone from being a major liability to one of the biggest assets of the squad. The Welshman has had a phenomenal season so far and just cannot stop scoring. The newspapers were wrong, the Welsh Wizard never left London. Wojciech Szczesny has also upped his game and is without doubt, on of the best shot stoppers in the League.

Olivier Giroud seems to have found his scoring touch again and seems to score in every game he plays. The Frenchman needed time to find his feet in England and is now one of the most consistent strikers in the game.

The defense has also been receiving acclaim, with the partnership of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker proving to be extremely fruitful.

Mesut Ozil has made an profound impact and will certainly go down as an Arsenal legend. The 25-year-old is enjoying life so much at London that he stated that he wants to end his career with the Gunners.

Jack Wilshere continues to mature with every game and may even be a captain of the future.

The only issue seems to be in the striking department. An injury to any one of the main forwards could create some problems, which Arsenal cannot afford as the crucial part of the Premier League is approaching.

Luis Suarez would have been an excellent addition to the team but Wenger’s pursuit of his failed miserably.

The only other striker options besides Giroud and Podolski are youth product Chuba Akapom and the unreliable Nicklas Bendtner.

Walcott and Gnabry can be utilized as strikers, but they are more productive in the midfield. Costa Rican youngster Joel Campbell is currently enjoying a good run of form with temporary club Olympiacos but does not have what it takes to play in the Champions League just yet.

All Arsenal need is one world class striker to partner Giroud or Podolski up front. The next two transfer windows will be extremely important for the Gunners. Rumors will come and go but it remains to be seen who Wenger will add to this much improved squad.
