Arsenal were never interested in signing Sami Khedira: Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger brushes off rumours of Arsenal signing Sami Khedira

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that Arsenal wasn’t close to signing German footballer Sami Khedira. Wenger brushed off any rumours of Khedira joining the Gunners, clearing any speculation regarding the Gunners looking to sign the German World Cup winner.

The Real Madrid midfielder Khedira has one year of contract left with Real Madrid, so there was speculation of him leaving the club and joining the North London side.

Wenger talking at a press conference prior to Sunday’s Community shield against Manchester city said, “I don't know who has put Khedira on the market - is it his agent or the press?”

The Arsenal manager wants to keep his options open, as he continues his search for a defensive midfielder.

“We were never close to signing him. Jack Wilshere is back fit and in midfield we have offensive midfielders and quite a few box-to-box players.”

Arsenal is looking to strengthen their squad as they have already signed Alexis Sanchez, Callum Chambers, Mathieu Debuchy and David Ospina. Wenger also feels that, with the Gunners signing many players recently, they have a comfortable pool of players to choose from.

“We still have three and a half weeks before the transfer market closes. I am open to it (more transfers) but Joel Campbell has come back plus the addition of the four players we have already bought.”

“We have not lost players until now so we have a big squad at the moment.” Wenger added.
