Arsenal drew 1-1 with Everton at Emirates Stadium

In what was pulsating, gripping and a fight right down to the wire, Everton clawed their way back to hold league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates in the late kick off match. Tactically and technically it was perhaps the right result with perhaps every player put on a terrific shift in a match which no one would have wanted to end. Mesut Ozil put the home side ahead late in the second half only for Everton substitute Gerrard Deulofeu, who came on to give Arsenal the taste of their own medicine as the feisty encounter ended one a piece.

Arsenal player ratings

Wozchiech Szczesny: Made two good saves from two Ross Barkley efforts after having a very quiet first half, despite the Everton dominance. However was helpless as he just stood watch Deulofeu’s wonder strike which equalised the game late on in what was a pulsating encounter in Super Sunday.

Rating: 2.5/5

Carl Jenkinson: Deputised for the injured Bacary Sagna and produced a good performance. Was always willing to barge forward but was isolated quite too often on the right flank. Needs more game time to claim a starting eleven spot in the Gunners line up.

Rating: 2.5/5

Per Mertesacker: Was in the heart of a contest which went right down to the wire. Made some brilliant interceptions and was quite solid at the back to keep Lukaku at bay.

Rating: 3/5

Laurient Koscielny: The Frenchman yet again put on a very determined performance worthy of being called a hero at the Emirates. Was tireless and had a brilliant work rate. Going by the stats, he made over eight interceptions, had a bit of a altercation with Lukaku though at the end of the first half.

Rating: 3.5/5

Kieran Gibbs: Had a great chance to put the Gunners ahead in the first half. Did very well overall as he too recorded innumerous interceptions and made the right tackles at the right time. But can be partly blamed for Everton’s equaliser.

Rating: 2.5/5

Mikel Arteta: The Spaniard, coming up against his former club didn’t have a great game overall. Was very slow in the middle of the park, failed to break the opposition play but did improve in the second half.

Rating: 2/5

Aaron Ramsey: Made two very poor mistakes which gave Everton the chance to go ahead. Critically I would say it was Ramsey’s worst game of the season going by his standards. Was taken off by Wenger in the second half but overall was somehow subdued.

Rating: 2/5

Jack Wilshere: Was playing out wide on right as he does these days but he did change flanks but on the overall yet another player who had a quiet game.

Rating: 2/5

Santi Cazorla: Misplaced quite a number of his passes, something unexpected from the Spaniard. Should have done better however by helping his defence tracking back. This is something he needs to inculcate in his game.

Rating: 2/5

Mesut Ozil: Scored the goal which put Arsenal ahead. As usual had this uncanny nonchalance of his sweeping moves and made some great passes up front.

Rating: 3/5

Olivier Giroud: Was perhaps the most hardworking playeramongst all in the Arsenal side, was very unlucky late on when his thumping drive struck the post. Was very very unlucky not to win the game with the blitzkrieg strike.

Rating: 3/5
