Basel coach Paulo Sousa felt proud of his team and fans despite losing 0-1 at home to Spanish giant Real Madrid in the Champions League.

"I'm proud of the players, the team and the fans. It was fantastic how we were supported this evening, with such enthusiasm - I would like it to always be like that. We deserved more," Sousa was quoted as by Xinhua.

"The players are executing my ideas properly. You can see that we can compete better and better with big teams. The team's belief in our ideas is growing. You could see that in the second half."

Cristiano Ronaldo was once again the scorer for Los Blancos after brilliant off the ball movement to shake off the defender who was marking him inside the Basel penalty area. That goal meant that Cristiano Ronaldo equalled Raul’s goal-scoring exploits for Madrid in the Champions League.

Basel, now second placed in the table, will take on Liverpool Dec 9 in the final crucial group match.
