Brazil could find themselves with a new coach ahead of the World Cup as current head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari may step down due to the death of his nephew in a car accident.
Brazil will kick off their World Cup campaign against Croatia but could be without Scolari if he chooses to be with his family.
Scolari’s 48-year-old nephew Tarcisio Joao Schneider perished after his car was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul. Schneider was alone in his car and the lorry driver also suffered injuries in the clash. Scolari was informed of the mishap while he was conducting a training session.
The 65-year-old manager left the Brazil camp to attend the funeral of his brother-in-law last month and could leave again for his nephew’s funeral.
Scolari may appoint a successor to lead the host nation in the tournament.
Brazil kick off their World Cup campaign against Croatia on Thursday after which they will face Mexico on Tuesday.
