Fabregas surprised at Real’s decision to sell Ozil

Barcelona medio Cesc Fabregas has mentioned that his former club Arsenal have grabbed Real Madrid’s second best player in the transfer window in the form of Mesut Ozil.

The German midfielder moved to Arsenal on the transfer deadline day for a club record fee of £42.5 million. Fabregas was reportedly shocked to hear that Madrid had sold their second best player.

As reported bycaughtoffside, Fabregas said: “I was really surprised by Ozil’s departure. “He seemed to me the second-best player at Madrid, after Cristiano (Ronaldo). He’ll be great for Arsenal.”

Mesut Ozil spent three years at Madrid after joining the club from Werder Bremen in 2010. He became an integral part of the team and played an influential role in their success as they won the Copa Del Rey in 2011 and the La Liga title a year later.

However, this summer’s big-money arrival of Gareth Bale from Tottenham left Ozil’s place in the club’s starting lineup under threat, compelling him to choose a move to the north London side.

Fabregas himself was speculated to move to the Premier League this summer. But he banished all rumours by staying at Camp Nou.

He further said: “The only thing in my head is triumphing at Barcelona.

“When I arrived at Barcelona I already knew there were other places where I could earn more or where I could have more minutes, but coming to Barca was my dream.

“It was my dream since I was small. I wouldn’t go, not even for double the money.”
