Cristiano Ronaldo's mother reacts on social media after Zinedine Zidane substitutes him

Ronaldo is having a tough time

Mothers are always known to be the encouraging kind and Cristiano Ronaldo’s mom is no different. The Portuguese superstar has had a very poor start to Real Madrid’s new season. His recent performances have been well short of his ridiculously high standards.

It was a similar story against Las Palmas as he was finding it difficult to influence the game. Los Blancos dropped two crucial points against the minnows and are now only a point above their fierce rivals Barcelona,

The Catalans strolled to a 5-0 victory over 10-man Sporting Gijon. Even without Leo Messi, they disposed of their opponents quite comfortably with brazilian Neymar playing a starring role.

Real Madrid’s front three have not quite clicked into gear, and despite Benzema getting on the scoresheet yesterday, it’s very clear the team look a little bit off the pace at the moment. Ronaldo was visibly upset when Zidane took him off last night.

He went back to the dugout and sulked in the corner, a reaction which is not surprising for anyone who’s having an off day. This is his worst start to a La Liga season but there is not doubt a player of his quality can shake off something like this of with one good performance.

But in the meantime, it is his mother who has come to show her support when her son needs it the most. After Ronaldo was subbed off, she took to twitter and put the following message about the incident:

It translates to: ‘ Never put your head down’.

It’s a lovely message from the adoring mother and it will surely bring his spirits even if it is slight in its impact.

Zidane believes Madrid performance was good

Zinedine Zidane feels his team put in a good performance against Las Palmas last night and were unlucky to come away with only a point. Speaking after the game he said this about his players.

“We had many chances in the first half tonight, also in the second. I do not believe we lacked hunger -- just the opposite. We started well, pressing high, we did what we had prepared.

“The second goal was not just one player's mistake, it was a bit of everything. The team are working well, are committed to what we are doing. In football, you cannot always win, but we are on the right path and we have a game on Tuesday which is coming up soon.”

Madrid will now travel to Germany to face arguably their toughest opponents yet this season in Borussia Dortmund.
