Cristiano Ronaldo urges Real Madrid fans to help team triumph over Wolfsburg

Cristiano Ronaldo has urged Real Madrid fans to help the team overcome Wolfsburg

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has called on Real Madrid fans to help the team overcome Wolfsburg in tomorrow night's Champions League quarter-final second leg. Real Madrid suffered a 2-0 defeat during last week’s first leg at Volkswagen Area, and the club will be looking to overturn the deficit at the Bernabeu tomorrow night.

Madrid looked largely uninspired during the first leg, with goals from Ricardo Rodriguez and Maximilian Arnold helping Wolfsburg overcome the star-studded side.

But Cristiano Ronaldo believes his team can overcome the 2-0 deficit at home and urged Madrid fans to support the team and create a “magical” atmosphere.

“The team are confident, the coach has faith and the fans must also have faith, Tuesday has to be a magical night,” he said.

“It is also important to remain calm in certain situations, we need patience and to know how to suffer for the win. The key objective is getting through to the next round, it is the only option that will allow us players and the fans to leave the stadium happy.”

In what was Wolfsburg’s first appearance in the Champions League quarter-finals, the team put on an impressive display against a Real Madrid side who had just defeated Barcelona in the La Liga El Clásico.

History is not on the side of Madrid, however, who have failed to proceed to the semi-finals the last five times they’ve lost in the first leg. But having proceeded to the semi-finals for the last six successive seasons, Ronaldo said it would be important for Madrid to start strongly.

“It will be important to get the upper hand early on, we don’t want it to still be 0-0 at halftime,” he said.

“We have to play attacking football, without a doubt, but we have to play wisely”.

Madrid will go into the second leg after another impressive win in La Liga having defeated Eibar 4-0. The win brought the side within four points of leaders Barcelona, who suffered a shock defeat to Real Sociedad on the weekend. Cristiano Ronaldo scored one goal in the game and broke yet another record by becoming the first player in La Liga to score 30 goals in six consecutive seasons.

The Real Madrid talisman will again hope he can be among the goalscorers tomorrow night and stop Wolfsburg from breaking their own record and proceeding to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time.
