David Villa set for Tottenham move in summer?

FC Barcelona v Rayo Vallecano de Madrid - La Liga

According to reports coming out from Spain, Barcelona striker David Villa will be joining EPL side Tottenham Hotspur next season. Andre Villas-Boas has successfully wooed the Barcelona striker to join him at Spurs, it would seem.

José Ramón de la Morena Pozuelo, a Spanish journalist, has claimed that Spurs manager Villas-Boas held talks with Villa to woo him to come to London. He reportedly traveled all the way to Barcelona with just Villa on his agenda.

With his contract set to expire in June 2014, Villa’s future role in the team was hazy as he did not hold a concrete place in the starting XI, spurring Tottenham to make a move.

London rivals Arsenal had submitted a formal bid for Villa just this January. The bid was rejected by Barcelona, as they had then felt that the striker had an important role to play in the 2nd half of the season.

The reports have not provided the details of the transfer, but it is estimated to be €12 million or above, meeting Barcelona’s asking price. Atlético Madrid are also reportedly interested in Villa.
