Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp has stated that Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is a perfect role model for young footballers. The Daily Mail reports.

The 26-year-old will make his comeback in the Premier League against a faltering Sunderland today, after completing his ten match ban for a bite on Chelsea defender Branslav Ivanovic last season. Bergkamp has praised Suarez’s clear thinking and feels that young players should follow his example and not get easily swayed.

Suarez was under Bergkamp during his time at Dutch club Ajax before being signed by Kenny Dalgalish in the summer of 2011.

The Dutchman stated in his autobiography, Stillness and Speed, the impact Suarez has made on his feelings for young players who are ready to make a break in the first team.

‘Everything is done for the kids now. It is a problem,’ said Bergkamp. ‘They are picked up from school by mini-vans, the food is there, the teaching is there. How can they develop themselves if everything is done for them?

‘We’ve got players in the first team now who have come through and are used to playing a certain style. As soon as it’s a little bit different, it’s “Oh no, I don’t know what to do!”

‘You could see the difference with Luis Suarez. Of course, maybe you wouldn’t agree with the things he did, but he was always trying to create something, always thinking “How do I get the best out of this situation? Do I have to pull the shirt of the defender to get to him? Do I get out of position to control the ball?”’

The Uruguay international will be lined up against Sunderland much to the relief of Liverpool boss Brenden Rodgers.

Rodgers said: ‘He’s just a normal man, likes a laugh and a joke, he’s good to have around. He’s good on the training field and you learn a lot from players like that, he tries to help you as well. He’s really no bother. Everybody tries to blow up what they’ve seen in games but in terms of training and on a personal level he’s been brilliant.

‘His partnership with Daniel Sturridge looked very dangerous. They’ve obviously played together before and hopefully we can continue like that and get some goals.’
