England does not know how to play football: Redknapp

Harry Redknapp, manager of Queens Park Rangers has expressed his disappointment at England under 21 side’s less than average performance at this summer’s European Championship by claiming that England ‘do not know how to play football’.

The recent games saw the Under 21 side struggling to cement their place in the national game, suffering three defeats in a row which kicked them off the group stage.

The lacklustre performance of the younger players just added to the already existing disappointing shows from the senior side.

Rumour has it that England has fallen from grace and is struggling hard to keep up with their rivals with respect to ball retention and creativity.

Redknapp who firmly believes that the problems at hand must be solved immediately lest they affect the standards and reputation of the squad in general, wrote in the Sun: “I am passionate about the England team at all levels and get terribly disappointed when I see us perform so abjectly against other countries when we have such great individuals.

“the overriding problem we all face is that English football must change. And it has to come from the very top of the game. That means manager Roy Hodgson getting involved with coaches at every level working in the same direction.”

“Look at the so-called ‘Golden Generation’ of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Wayne Rooney, Ashley Cole etc.”

“We don’t have the kids coached the same way – the right way – from a young age. As a result we have a senior team that is greatly underachieving.”

Redknapp was in the running for national post of the coach prior to the appointment of Roy Hodgson.
