Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater has been linked with a move out of the club for a while now and as such Tottenham Hotspur are rooting out for the player’s signature. Further, if reports are to be believed then, Spurs have received a boost with the latest news coming in from the King Power stating that the 26-year-old midfielder has rejected a new contract with Leicester City.
According to the reports from the Sun, the player turned down a new £80,000 a week deal offered by the Foxes as the midfielder is holding out for a higher wage increment.

Tottenham has been monitoring Drinkwater’s situation since some time now and the reports of the player rejecting Leicester’s offer of a new contract will surely act as a boost for the Spurs who are keen on bringing the player to the White Hart Lane.

The player enjoyed a successful season at Leicester City during the 2015-2016 campaign, being one of the key players for the Foxes’ title win last season providing 8 assists and scoring 3 goals for the Foxes during the same.
Drinkwater joined the club in January 2012 from Manchester United and has enjoyed a successful period at the club since his move. He was named Championship player of the Month for December 2013, further being named as PFA Championship Team of the Year alongside teammates Kasper Schmeichel and Wes Morgan.
Furthermore, most of the Leicester City players are subject to pay rises after their shock Premier League title victory last season and if reports are to be believed then, the Foxes are ready to offer a deal which will see Drinkwater earn £100k a week so as to wade off interest from other clubs looking to sign the player.
However Leicester’s delay in offering the same through the summer, is not helping the club secure Drinkwater’s signature. Further not being called for England during the European Championships 2016 has led Drinkwater to believe that a move to a better club will help him move his international career ahead and also get a better wage deal.
Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri is reluctant to let go of the player having already lost N’Golo Kante to Chelsea and barely managing to keep a hold on Jamie Vardy over the heavy link ups concerning a move to Arsenal. The Italian manager is keen on keeping most of his squad intact for the 2016-2017 campaign. Drinkwater, however may be tempted to make a move to Tottenham as Spurs’ manager Mauricio Pochettino still continues to develop England’s most promising young players.
