The World Cup of surprises came to an end with Spain winning its first title. There was a lot of hype about many leading players in club football and everyone expected the World Cup to be dominated by the Messis, the Ronaldos, the Rooneys, the Kakas, the Gerrards and the Lampards.

But it was a different set of players who announced themselves as better than the ones mentioned.
