Germany's Mats Hummels open to Manchester United move 'some day'

Germany and Dortmund defender Mats Hummels

Germany defender Mats Hummels has played down talks of a possible transfer to Manchester United this summer but admitted it could appeal to him ‘some day’.

The Borussia Dortmund centre back has been the bedrock for the title-winning teams under Jurgen Klopp in 2011 and 2012. Hummels has attracted huge interest from Barcelona and Manchester United for his performances for Dortmund and Germany.

Red Devils new boss Louis Van Gaal has made Mats Hummels his top summer transfer target for filling the big hole left in the centre of defence by the departure of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

The 25-year old though is not looking too far ahead and is concentrating on winning Germany its first World Cup since 1990 saying: “I never think about that or talk about it because it is something that isn’t important for me right now.”

“Maybe it will be some day, but I don’t expect it to be like that this summer.”

Manchester United have also been heavily linked to Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen as part of their summer rebuilding programme but hopes of garnering Mats Hummels signature this transfer window remain.
