Germany is out of the European Under-21 Championship, after losing out to Spain in Israel.

The 2009 winners, who lost their first game to the Netherlands in a 3-2 defeat, kept their hopes up about pulling through and emerging victorious in the match against the Spaniards.

But the final blow was delivered by Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, who managed to cut inside the box and score a winner in the 85th minute of the game to give Spain a 1-0 victory.

Spain will be joined in the semi-finals by Netherlands, who are fresh off their massive 5-1 victory over the Russian squad in Group B of the European Under-21 Championship. Russia, who lost 1-0 to Spain in the first game, have also been knocked out of the competition.

It was the late goals contributed by Danny Hoesen and Leroy Fer that ensured victory for the 2006 and 2007 champions- Netherlands.
