FIFA World Cup: Ghana seeded for final draw

Accra (Ghana), Sep 13 (IANS): World No.24 Ghana will be seeded for the final play-off draw for the 2014 Brazil FIFA World Cup alongside Ivory Coast, Algeria, Nigeria and Tunisia — the five highest ranked African teams. Cape Verde, who were disqualified for using an unqualified player, were replaced by Tunisia.

They will be placed in pot one while Egypt, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Senegal and Ethiopia are in the second pot for next week’s draw in Cairo.

Despite seeing a reduction in points — from 830 to 815 — Ghana are still ranked second-best in Africa behind Ivory Coast, with Algeria and Nigeria climbing to third and fourth.

The home and away playoff matches to find the five African representatives at the World Cup will be played during Oct 11-15 (first leg) and Nov 15-19 (second leg).
