Berlin, Sep 16 (IANS): Hoffenheim celebrated its first win on home soil thanks to the 2-1 triumph over Monchengladbach whilst newly promoted Braunschweig earned their first points in Bundesliga football.

Hoffenheim and Monchengladbach staged an evenly balanced and fast paced encounter in which the “Foals” failed to exploit their scoring opportunities in the end, Sunday, reports Xinhua.

The hosts nearly caught a bright start when Kevin Volland‘s long-range effort rattled the left post. Meanwhile, Monchengladbach were unable to gain a foothold into the game.

Thus, Hoffenheim broke the deadlock through Anthony Modeste who headed home following a Tarik Elyounoussi cross into the box with seconds remaining in the first half.

Monchengladbach’s Juan Arango and Raffael came close to equalize at the second half but their attempts remained short on accuracy. The ineffectiveness by the visitors in front of Hoffenheim’s danger zone were punished by Kevin Volland, who shrugged off Filip Daems, to double the lead into the far post corner at the 54th minute.

Monchengladbach pulled one back as substitute Branimir Hrgota danced through Hoffenheim’s defence to make it 2-1 on the scoreboards. The “Foals” frenetically pressed for the equalizer but all their efforts remained unrewarded.

Elsewhere, Nuremberg and newly promoted Braunschweig shared points following a 1-1 draw.
