The historic day has finally arrived and the stage doesn't get bigger than this for Indian Football. The efforts by Reliance - IMG, STAR India and AIFF are all set to reap rewards for Indian football as a Hero Indian Super League kicks off today to celebrate the birth of a footballing nation.
AFC - the highest authority of football in Asia has congratulated AIFF on the commencement of the league and has also shown confidence in the league.
I would like to congratulate you on the launch of the new franchise-based Indian Super League; which will kick off on 12 October.
I am confident that this eight-team competition with a total of 61 matches; will increase the popularity of the sport in India and will create a strong fan base for the Indian domestic football.
The knowledge and experience gained from this competition will also help the clubs in raising their profile and will strengthen the national team in future.
