Overview

Delhi Dynamos have tied up with Dutch giants Feyenoord but for domestic players draft they took assistance from representatives of Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools (BBFS). Owner of the franchise, Sameer Manchanda, CMD of DEN networks limited, also had a big say on the selections. They were heavily criticised after day one as the only current India team player that they picked up was winger Francis Fernandes. But Delhi Dynamos were actually quite tactical in their selections as they were focusing on getting fullbacks and wide midfielders from the Indian pool with BBFS scholar Mumun Lugun also getting selected. Clearly they want to fill up the central positions with foreigners with Danish strikers Mads Junker and Morten Skoubo already signed up. Delhi Dynamos did pick three big names on day two – Steven Dias, Anwar Ali and Manandeep Singh – but still ended up with the lowest expenditure among the six franchises.

Strengths

The big strength of Delhi Dynamos is the presence of quality players on the wide areas. In Naoba Singh (right back) and Robert Lalthamuana (left back) they have fullbacks with the previous experience of winning the I-League while the young versatile Shouvik Ghosh has represented India U-23. Francis is one of the best players in the country while other wide medios like Steven Dias and Shylo Malswamtluanga have plenty of experience. They also have versatile players like Adil Khan, who can operate both in defence and midfield, and Shouvik Chakraborty, who is capable of playing different roles in midfield.

Weaknesses

Due to their focus on wide areas, Delhi Dynamos look unconvincing when it comes to Indian players in central positions. Their only goalkeeper Jagroop Singh doesn’t have enough I-League experience while question marks remain regarding the form and fitness of Anwar and Manandeep. Both have played for India but Anwar’s career has stalled in recent years while Manandeep has been troubled by injuries in the last 18 months.

Player to Watch

Francis Fernandes (in blue) is Delhi’s costliest Indian player

Francis Fernandes

The India international left Salgaocar this summer to play in the ISL and he will be looking to live up to the high expectations which are there due to his heavy price tag and international experience. Delhi Dynamos will be looking for a healthy return of goals and assists from their first pick.
