Former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher believes his former teammate at the Merseyside club, Luis Suarez can become a better footballer than the latter's current Barcelona colleague, Lionel Messi.

When the Sky Sports pundit was asked about the Uruguayan international, here is what Carragher had to say:

“Sensational. Luis Suarez is the best striker in the world. If you ask me about the top three players in the world, I'd prefer Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Carragher believes that Suarez was the missing piece in the Catalan puzzle and that the ex-Liverpool striker, who had scored 69 goals for the Reds in 133 league appearances, has made Barcelona an even more formidable side with a sense of direction.

“Suarez has made Barcelona an even better and direct team than they were under Guardiola,” the 38-year-old said.

Although he believes that Messi is the world's greatest footballer, Carragher also thinks that the Uruguayan has enough calibre in order to challenge his fellow Blaugrana teammate for the number one spot.

“The challenge, now, is to be the number one and I think it has enough talent to get it,” Carragher told the host of the show.

Europe calling

Born and brought up in Salto, the second-largest popular city of Uruguay, Luis Suarez started his senior football career with Nacional before moving to Europe.

The 29-year-old had moved to the Netherlands in 2007 where he used to play for Ajax before being bought by the Merseyside club. The duo spent almost 25 months together at Anfield under Kenny Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers respectively before the English defender decided to hang his boots at the end of 2012-13 season.

The Uruguay international joined FC Barcelona a couple of seasons back where he currently plays alongside the likes of the little master, Lionel Messi and Neymar Junior, leading to an incredible partnership between the trio. Luis Suarez has stacked up 42 goals for Barcelona in his 52 appearances for the Catalan side.

The Blaugranas had won La Liga last season and currently occupies the number one spot in the Spanish league table by eight points ahead of the two Madrid-based teams, namely Atletico Madrid (67 points) and Real Madrid (63 points) with 9 more matchdays to go.

Barcelona also could repeat their feat from last season by winning the UEFA Champions League and Copa del Rey this time around.
