Lazio skipper Stefano Mauri’s six month ban for match fixing has been hiked by a further three months due to the players appeal being turned down, The Daily Mail reports.

The 33-year-old was penalized by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) after being found guilty of not reporting a case of match-fixing in Lazio’s 2011 games against Genoa and Leece despite knowing what was going on.

The Italian international chose to prove his innocence but will now miss the entire season due to the failed appeal.

The player will now approach Italy’s National Court of Arbitration for Sport to look into the matter.

A statement issued by the FIGC mentions that the appeal against the 40,000 euro fine had been dismissed. The player will now be charged an extra 10000 euros as a penalty.

The scandal involved Lazio beating Genoa and Leece by the same 4-2 scoreline in 2011.

A six-point reduction for Lazio was requested by prosecutor Stefano Palazzi but the request was turned down by court.
