Liverpool are preparing to increase their offer for Southampton captain Adam Lallana to £26 million, in order to complete the deal before the World Cup, according to the Metro.

The Reds are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of a big campaign next se

ason where they will attempt to keep up with the teams at the top and continue to challenge for the Premier League title. Brendan Rodgers must also battle with extra midweek fixtures due to qualifying for the Champions League group stages.

Liverpool submitted a £20m bid for Lallana shortly after the season ended and that has apparently been rejected by Southampton, who are also losing Rickie Lambert to the Reds, as he will have his medical tomorrow ahead of a £4m move to Merseyside.

Rodgers is determined to land the Englishman who had a superb season with Southampton, and is willing to pay what it takes. However, there are reports that Southampton may hike the price up closer to £30m which would probably force Liverpool to move away from any potential deal.

It is expected that Liverpool will make the offer over the next few days in order to get the deal finished before the World Cup starts in under a fortnight.
