Mario Balotelli could be set for a surprise return to the Premier League after he opened the door for a move to Chelsea, the Daily Star report.

The controversial striker has become dissatisfied with life at AC Milan after enduring a disappointing season at the San Siro and with Chelsea currently reviewing their striking options, a move could be made for the talented yet troublesome forward.

Balotelli has worked with Jose Mourinho before at Inter Milan, and though the Special One labelled him ‘unmanageable’ at the time, it appears they could mend their differences to team up again in order to fire Chelsea to Premier League glory.

Mourinho has become frustrated with the striking options at his disposal currently, with Demba Ba rumoured to be leaving and Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o failing to live up to their billings, so is reportedly in the market for an extra option.

Chelsea are just two points off top spot this season and the feeling is that an extra striker could be the missing piece of the jigsaw that could see them overtake Arsenal in the league standings and claim another Premier League title victory, their third under the stewardship of Mourinho.

Balotelli has always been viewed as one of the most talented forwards of his generation, but the issues with his attitude that have come with that ability have proven detrimental to his career thus far.

Galatasaray and another former manager in Roberto Mancini have also been linked with a move, while the unhappy Juan Mata could be used as a make-weight in the deal to bring Balotelli to Stamford Bridge, should a proposed move to Atletico Madrid come to nothing.
