Mesut Ozil should go to Borussia Dortmund and shine again

Getafe CF v Real Madrid CF - Liga BBVA

With Carlo Ancelotti now officially the Real Madrid manager and a big name signing surely following, some players will be moved on to create space in the squad. Looking at who will most likely be shipped out, Mesut Ozil could head the list of casualties. An already loaded area of the team is about to be added to with Isco, and possibly even Gareth Bale. It could mean that Ozil is the odd man out.

Real Madrid will want to kick off this new era with a bang by getting themselves a new galactico. Ancelotti’s main job is to win the Champions League, and it will be fitting to have a big name player to help them on their way. With Isco now confirmed as a Real Madrid player, and Luis Suarez being consistently linked to the club, it will be Ozil who will make way as he didn’t find the form which he we all know he has the talent to display regularly, and found himself on the bench more times than he would like.

Ozil is a fantastic player, and with the right system he could show what he can do and repay the faith in him with dominant displays and goals. Looking at some of the teams which he would suit, the Premier League would be great for Ozil to show what he can do and to prove critics wrong. Man City, Chelsea and Man Utd would head a long list of teams that would be interested as he would fit into all their systems, commanding a starting place with his performances. But he would be suited at another team not in the Premier League – Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund.

With Mario Gotze now at Bayern Munich and Dortmund losing out to their German rivals at Wembley in the Champions League final, it looks like the Bavarian club are getting stronger. With Pep Guardiola now at the helm and expecting to win everything in sight for many more years, and possibly even taking Robert Lewandowksi from their main domestic rivals, Dortmund need to fire back with a top quality signing of their own. With this in mind, Ozil would be a first-team regular and have the team playing to his style. Gotze consistently provided opportunities for his team mates and chipped in with a few goals. Ozil will have the same effect; and with Reus, Blaszczykowski and a new striker alongside him, the Dortmund line up will be very similar, and the consistency could be the difference in Bundesliga title race next season. Whilst Bayern are figuring out how much Guardiola wants to change, Dortmund will be playing in the same style that has brought them success over the last few years.

If Ozil goes back home, it will bring him to life and European football will have a top-class player back to his best. He is possibly the best like-for-like replacement for Mario Gotze; and if Dortmund can sign him, they could focus on replacing Lewandowski and trying to overcome Bayern in style.
