Napoli: Gonzalo Higuain will not be joining Barcelona

Gonzalo Higuain in action for Napoli

Serie A outfit Napoli have shot down claims of star striker Gonzalo Higuain leaving the club this summer accoring to the Mirror.

The 26-year-old was previously linked with a move to Arsenal before Napoli managed to acquire his services from Real Madrid last summer but could now lose him to Barcelona if reports are to be believed.

Spanish tabloid Marca has even stated that the deal with Barcelona is near completion.

However, Napoli dismissed reports of a transfer on their official Twitter account and stated that the rumours are "entirely unfounded" and “lack any foundation”.

But Spanish newspaper Sport told CalcioNapoli24.it that it was in fact Napoli who offered Higuain to Barcelona but the Camp Nou outfit are not interested.

"We spoke to the club to verify the news. Higuain is absolutely not in Luis Enrique’s plans.”

"There was no contact with Napoli. Higuain’s entourage offered him to Barcelona, but there were no negotiations."

Higuain scored 24 goals in 44 appearances in his debut season with Napoli which helped them win the Coppa Italia title.

Translation: The journalistic indiscretions that could be transferred to are unfounded.
