Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has distanced himself from reports of a move to Liverpool.

Huntelaar, who scored the winning penalty in Netherlands’ 2-1 victory over Mexico in the World Cup, has been mooted as a potential replacement for the Barcelona-bound Luis Suarez at Liverpool.

With only one year left on his current deal at the Bundesliga club, many have questioned whether the Schalke striker is set to call time on his stint at the Veltins-Arena.

However, in an interview with FourFourTwo Huntelaar shot down rumours of a Premier League switch, branding the speculation as “nonsense.”

“Of course sometimes I get a text message from people around me,” he said.

“I think it’s all nonsense.

“No-one has informed my agent and I am not talking about the interest from clubs. I am concentrating on the [World Cup].”

Huntelaar added that he wouldn’t talk on his future until preparations for next season begin yet stressed his intent to stay at Schalke should they meet his aspirations as a player.

Although he is “fantastic” at his current club, the former Real Madrid forward did concede that it would be nice to play in England, having already played for top clubs in the Spanish, Italian and German leagues.

“Schalke has already indicated that they want to talk. During the preparation for the new season is perhaps the best time to enter into a conversation.

“Yes, there are certain conditions. I want to achieve something, of course.

“I’ve played in Spain, Italy and Germany [but] then it [would be] nice to still play in England. But I’m fantastic at Schalke - a very lively club.”
