"Mistake machine", "Worst footballer in Manchester United history" - Fans slam 24-year-old after his display in the Red Devils' loss to Copenhagen

Fans have criticized Diogo Dalot for his role in 10-man Manchester United's 4-3 defeat to FC Copenhagen on Wednesday (November 8).

The Red Devils suffered their third UEFA Champions League loss of the season dramatically. Rasmus Hojlund's brace gave Erik ten Hag's side the lead but the game was turned on its head when Marcus Rashford was sent off for a dangerous foul.

Copenhagen hit back through Mohamed Elyounoussi and Diogo Goncalves' penalty to close out the first half at 2-2. Manchester United came out bravely in the second half and went back in front through Bruno Fernandes' penalty.

However, Dalot was caught napping at the back post which allowed Danish midfielder Lukas Lerager to tap in from close range. Copenhagen sealed all three points through 17-year-old Roony Bardghji late on.

It was a miserable night for Ten Hag and his troops who sit bottom of Group A. Fans have placed the blame on Dalot, particularly for his lapse in concentration for the hosts' third.

The Portuguese right-back played as a makeshift left-back which left fans scratching their heads. Sergio Reguilon was left on the bench despite being brought to the club to deal with injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

One fan went as far as to call Dalot the worst player in the Red Devils' history:

"Diogo Dalot - the worst footballer in Manchester United history."

Another fan alluded to the Portugal international's constant mistakes having similarly lost his man in a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup this month:

"This Dalot guy man, mistake machine."

Here's how fans on X (formerly Twitter) hit out at Dalot for his display against Copenhagen:

Owen Hargreaves insists Manchester United can still qualify from their Champions League group

Manchester United are in a precarious position and their chances of advancing to the Champions League knockout stages are bleak. They sit bottom of Group A with three points from four games.

The Red Devils next travel to Galatasaray on November 29 in a must-win game. They then face group leaders Bayern Munich at Old Trafford on December 12. Ten Hag's men are a point below Galatasary and Copenhagen so they are still in with a chance provided they beat the Turkish giants.

Owen Hargreaves still believes United can make it out of their group despite their dismal start to the campaign. He told TNT Sports:

"(Manchester United) can win both games. They need to be positive and optimistic. Hojlund was great tonight and they need to focus on the positives, and he was one of them."

The Red Devils will focus on the Premier League next where they currently sit eighth after 11 games played. They host Luton Town at Old Trafford on Saturday (November 11).
