“Please no late goals, the graphics are already made” - Bayer Leverkusen post hilarious tweet in 89th minute of 2-1 win during final league game

Bayer 04 Leverkusen v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga
Bayer Leverkusen celebrate their Bundesliga title.

Bayer Leverkusen posted a hilarious tweet as Xabi Alonso's side beat Augsburg 2-1 in their final Bundesliga game of the season on Saturday (May 18).

Leverkusen won their final league game of the season to cap off an unbeaten campaign. The Bundesliga champions won 28 games and drew six to end the season with a staggering 90 points.

One of Leverkusen's most notable traits this season has been their late goals. They have often registered comeback wins and have managed draws by scoring in the dying embers of games.

Leverkusen's social media profile referred to that and made a hilarious post:

"PLEASE NO LATE GOALS TODAY GUYS! THE GRAPHICS ARE ALREADY MADE!!"

Bayer Leverkusen become the fourth club in a top European league - and first in the Bundesliga - to go an entire league campaign unbeaten. AC Milan, Juventus and Arsenal are the other teams to do so.

Xabi Alonso's side, though, are unbeaten across competitions. They play Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday (May 22) and FC Koln in the DFB Pokal final three days laater. Hence, they could end the season with a treble, a remarkable achievement in itself, and do so by going unbeaten, which will be unprecedented.

Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal and other teams that have gone an entire league season unbeaten

Bayer Leverkusen have joined an elite list of teams to go unbeaten in a league season. Preston North End (1888-89), AC Milan (1991-92), Arsenal (2003-04) Juventus (2011-12), Celtic (2016-17), and others have done so.

All the aforementioned teams have gone on to win the league titles as well. Perugia, though, remain the only team in history to go an entire league season unbeaten but not win the title.

They went unbeaten in the 30-game 1978-79 season. Perugia drew 19 of those games and finished three points behind AC Milan. At that time, winners were awarded two points per win.
