Oscar Bruzon completes a year in the Sporting Goa hot seat

Sporting Clube de Goa Coach Óscar Bruzón Barreras was all smiles on Sunday as he marked his first anniversary of making his debut as a Professional Coach in the I-League with Sporting Clube de Goa, exactly a year ago.

The thirty-six year old Spaniard’s first game in charge was against ONGC on December 8, 2012, where the match ended in a respectable 2-2 draw, after the Flaming Oranje came back from two goals down at half time to earn a valuable point.

In the last 365 days, Sporting Goa has played a grand total of 50 games in all competitions. The club has won 28 matches, drawn 14 and lost only eight times, which say’s a lot for the influence Oscar has had on the club.

In the Goa Pro League, Sporting Goa has won 15 matches, drawn four and lost just two games, which made them win the Goa Super Cup final in May and Goa Pro League recently.

Since Oscar took over, the club has played 29 I-League encounters, where they have won 13, drawn 10 and lost only six. Last season they finished sixth in the I-League and this year in what will be his first full season in charge they are currently in second place in the standings.

In the last twelve months, the club has seen two strikers namely Dawson Fernandes and Victorino Fernandes make their debuts for the Indian national team with the talented pair having both grown in confidence under the Spaniard.

Oscar has also become a huge hit with the Flaming Oranje fans, who he happily meets and greets after practice sessions and matches.

Oscar’s parents are currently in Goa on holiday which made the anniversary occasion extra special, although the ambitious Coach did not relax too much as he has plenty left to achieve this season.
