What's the story?

Real Madrid have not had the best of seasons so far and now latest reports in Don Balon via The Express claim that Los Blancos have beaten Manchester City in the race to sign Arsenal superstar Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean winger has yet to agree a new contract with the Gunners and with Arsenal reluctant to sell to their direct rivals, reports in Spain claim that the All Whites have agreed on a cut-price £44 million deal for Sanchez.

Also, Madrid will most likely sell Lucas Vasquez in order to freshen up their squad and make room for the former Barcelona star.

Future galactico?

The future of Alexis Sanchez has been subject to intense speculation in the past few months. Manchester City were favourites to sign the 28-year-old, but Arsenal's reluctance to sell to another Premier League side has seen Real Madrid become favourites to secure the Chilean's signature.

Also, with Madrid ready to pay £44 million in January, Wenger is reportedly ready to cut his losses and sell the winger to the 12-time European Champions.

The heart of the matter

Real Madrid need to add a fresh dimension to their attack. With Gareth Bale struggling due to injuries and Lucas Vasquez ineffective this season, Zidane has decided to invest in Sanchez and freshen up the attack.

Sanchez's dribbling, technical skills and hunger will definitely make Madrid more threatening and Florentino Perez is eager to add a marquee name in January. Another point to consider is that Sanchez spent 3 seasons at arch-rivals Barcelona and it will be interesting to see how their fans react if the Chilean does indeed end up signing for Real Madrid.

Author's take

While Arsenal fans might not like to think about losing the likes of Sanchez and Ozil, there is no point in losing out on two world-class players for free. With Madrid ready to pay £44 million, Arsene Wenger and Arsenal should cut their losses and sell the talented Chilean winger to the defending European Champions.
