Real Madrid Legends beat Manchester United Legends 2-1 in the friendly for the club’s Red Heart United charity.

The day proved to be a success as a crowd of around 60,000 turned out to see some of the greatest legends of the game at Old Trafford.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy had to switch sides at the interval as the hitman had played for both the sides during his career.

Paul Scholes made his first appearance since retiring from the game and he was joined by some United greats like Jaap Stam, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Edwin van der Sar. On the other hand, Madrid team included the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Claude Makelele and Steve McManaman.

Fernando Morientes sent Real Madrid into the lead by scoring a brilliant goal in the 39th minute from just outside the box. Ruud van Nistelrooy, who represented both teams, lifted the noise levels when he equalised for United in the 68th minute.

However, it was Ruben de la Red who won Real Madrid the match after scoring a delightful chip in the 85th minute.
