Reports: Liverpool to make stunning move for in-form Real Madrid star

Manchester United v Liverpool - Premier League
More options for Klopp?

What’s the story?

According to the folks at Diario Gol, Liverpool will engage in a battle with Premier League clubs for Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez. The winger is in fine form with 8 goals and 8 assists to his name this season and has attracted interest from various clubs.

In case you didn’t know

Lucas Vazquez is a product of Real Madrid’s fabled youth academy, La Fabrica. The Spaniard was sent to Espanyol on loan in 2014-15, where he honed his abilities even further with 6 assists and 3 goals in 34 league games. His performances made Real Madrid keep him at the Bernabeu following his return after the conclusion of his loan spell.

Heart of the matter

Despite featuring in 25 games out of 29 league games for Madrid—joint-highest for Madrid along with Isco—he still ranks 15th in the minutes played in the league column at Real Madrid. Apparently, according to the report, he wants to play more and could leave in order to have his wish fulfilled.

As a result, Liverpool will do everything to sign him, but they face competition from Arsenal, Tottenham and Roma.

Rumour rating: 2/10

For starters, Vazquez might have played few minutes when compared to his team-mates, but he looks perfectly content with it. He has also gotten chances to start in important games like against PSG in the second leg of the round of 16 in the Champions League and is aware of Zidane's trust in him.

Also, the source of this rumour is Diario Gol, so the reliability of this rumour borders on nothing.

Author's take

While any team would be a better unit with Lucas Vazquez in it, the Spaniard knows that he is an important member of the Real Madrid team and also loves the club through and through.

This is a combination that could just mean one thing: he is going to be at the Bernabeu for a long time to come.
