Manchester United players could also pay the price for a season of disappointment in the summer, with up to 11 players’ futures at the club in doubt as United plot a summer spending spree, the Express report.

Manager David Moyes has already had his contract terminated with United with the club having endured a frustrating season that sees them well off the title pace and failing to qualify for the Champions league for the first time since 1996, with Ryan Giggs taking temporary charge.

A number of big name managers are being linked with the post and a transfer kitty of £200million has been made available for new recruits in the summer, and a number of players will pay the price for a year of underachievement by being shipped out of the club in order to make room.

Nemanja Vidic has already agreed a move to Inter Milan when his contract expires in June, and he will be joined in leaving the club on a free transfer by the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra, with the pair unlikely to be offered extensions to their current deals.

Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck have both emerged as targets for Everton and the homegrown players could be shipped out of the squad, while failed signings Nani, Alex Buttner and Anderson will end their unhappy spells at the club.

Also facing the exit are Robin van Persie, Javier Hernandez and Shinji Kagawa, with the trio having all become unsettled at the club and looked for an exit that the Red Devils are likely to accept as they look to find space for incoming players, with the likes of Luke Shaw, Ezequiel Garay and Toni Kroos all heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
