Video: Rio Ferdinand appeals to David De Gea to stay at Manchester United

Ferdinand and De Gea were teammates for three seasons

Rio Ferdinand has urged David De Gea to stay at Manchester United and did so by using social media as a medium. The former Manchester United defender posted a video message on Instagram with a not-so-subtle hint at what he wants the Spaniard to do with his future.

In the video, Rio tells the camera that he has a message for the goalkeeper, before turning on his sound system and belting out the Double You’s 1992 hit song Please Don’t Go. He goes on to increase the volume midway through the video and then grooves to the song with a straight look on his face, which probably sums up his thoughts on his ex-teammate’s current transfer saga.

David De Gea has been in stellar form since joining United in 2011, and his impressive performances last season has led to reported interest from Real Madrid, who are looking for a long-term successor to Iker Casillas.
