Rodgers hunts down a new Jamie Carragher!

Dutch Eredivisie - Willem II v Feyenoord

Liverpool are eager to sign Feyenoord youngster Stefan De Vrij. Manager Brendan Rodgers was in Holland to run a scouting mission ahead of a potential bid this summer for the Feyenoord captain and centre back.

The Anfield club has been keeping close tabs on highly rated Dutch U-21 player for some time, but perhaps the seriousness is testified by the personal trip by the Liverpool boss who is considering a bid for the youngster to replace Jamie Carragher, who will bid adieu to the game at the end of the current campaign.

De Vrij’s employers, Feyenoord, may choose to sell the youngster this summer rather than allowing him to a leave on a possible free transfer at the end of next season, as only 18 months remains on his contract.

Even though De Vrij only turned 21 earlier this month, he has already racked up over 100 caps for Feyenoord and has three games under his belt for national team.

Given that Sebastian Coates is still settling at Anfield and Daniel Agger’s well known injury concerns, Rodgers has his hands full looking for defensive signings this summer.
