At a time when José Mourinho has been telling anybody who would listen that he doesn’t have any “real striker”, reports that Tottenham Hotspur have been in talks with Romelu Lukaku’s agent over a summer move will not go down too well with the Stamford Bridge faithful.

The 20-year-old striker, who has fallen out of favor with Mourinho, is currently on a season-long loan at Everton. Reports suggest that he is unlikely to stay at parent club Chelsea as Mourinho is still in charge and that he would prefer to be playing elsewhere.

After a phenomenal season last time around, the Belgian has been somewhat subdued this campaign and has scored only 13 goals in 26 games at Everton this season. Lukaku is believed to be valued at around £20m, which has drawn interest from quite a few clubs.

Speaking to Belgium newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, his agent Christophe Henrotay said: “I’m looking for a club for Romelu. And yes, I’ve talked to [Tottenham chairman] Daniel Levy once, but that doesn’t mean Romelu will definitely join Spurs. That’s not a talking point at this moment.” Thereby confirm what most believed, was already on the cards, with Spurs struggling without a fit and firing forward this season.

With Everton pushing for the Champions League, Lukaku might be tempted to stay if the Toffees do make it in, and with just half a dozen games to go, it is still possible. And Everton are more than willing to have him on a permanent basis. His agent also added that he is looking at other options.

“There aren’t 20 teams that can afford to buy Romelu. He won’t go from Everton to, let’s say, Swansea. There’s also a difference between Everton that plays against relegation and an Everton that fights for European football.”

That is certainly isn’t what Chelsea fans would have liked to hear, especially given the fact that their side are struggling without a proper center forward at the moment.
