Rumour: Arsenal and Real Madrid set sights on Everton boss Roberto Martinez

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is being lined up as a potential replacement for Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, according to the Daily Mail.

The Spaniard has been fantastic in his first season in charge of Everton and could well lead them to a top four finish, ahead of Arsenal.

The Blues swiftly put three goals past the Gunners at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon to go just one point behind Arsenal, who occupy fourth. Everton also have one game in hand and have a superior goal difference on the north London club as their pursuit of Champions League football is looking good.

After taking over from David Moyes last summer, Martinez immediately set his sights high and his exciting brand of football, as well as his ability to manage a budget and motivate his players is seen as extremely important in his bid to become Arsenal manager.

It is unlikely that the Spaniard would leave Everton in the summer, especially after showing such signs of progress and potential. He has always been loyal to his cause, too, often ignoring contact from other clubs while in charge of Wigan Athletic, so should Arsenal seek Martinez as Wenger’s replacement, they will have a tough job on their hands to pry him away from Everton.

He could replace Ancelotti at the Santiago Bernabeu if the Italian fails to deliver the Spanish league title or a Champions League crown by the end of this season, following the massive investment by the La Liga giants.

Everton have won their last seven home games.
