La Liga high-flyers Girona are reportedly contemplating a move for Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara. The Spaniard has been at Anfield since the summer of 2020.

However, Alcantara has been plagued by injuries for most of his stint, managing only 98 appearances across competitions in nearly four seasons, contributing three goals and six assists. That includes only one game - in the Premier League - logging just five minutes this season, missing nearly the entire campaign due to a plethora of injuries.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Alcantara is all set to leave Anfield, having announced so. As per GOAL (via Relevo), Girona are interested in bringing the Spaniard back to La Liga after a memorable campaign where they are set for a top-three finish and a maiden UEFA Champions League next season.

However, if Thiago moves to Girona, he will have to take a massive pay-cut on his current wages of €10 million per season he's earning with the Reds.

The Spaniard was one of the best players at his position during his near decade-long stint at Bayern Munich. Thiago won a plethora of Bundesliga titles and one UEFA Champions League title, as part of the 2019-20 treble.

What's next for Liverpool?

Liverpool are set for a rather tame end to the Jurgen Klopp era, with the affable German winning every trophy at Anfield except the UEFA Europa League, where the Reds made the quarterfinals this season, losing to Atalanta.

They also exited the FA Cup at the same stage, losing at Manchester United, ending their hopes of an unprecedented quadruple. A few games later, their Premier League title hopes also ended following a run of indifferent results.

Following a 3-3 draw at Aston Villa on Monday (May 13), the Klopp era at Anfield comes to an end with a home game with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday (May 19).
