Manchester United are set to begin their summer rebuild by making a bid for Barcelona midfielder Alexandre Song, Talk Sport report.

Manager David Moyes has been given in the region of £150-200million in order to reinvigorate his underachieving squad, with reports circulating that five or six new arrivals could make the move to Old Trafford in the close season.

Song is not a first team regular at Barcelona, currently used as more of a squad player and while happy in the Catalan capital, he could be tempted to become a major player in a big team.

United need to freshen up their options after suffering a disappointing season which sees them 15 points off the top, 11 points off the top four and sitting in seventh in the Premier League table.

The lack of a natural defensive midfielder has often been cited as an issue in the Red Devils’ squad, as they truly lack a designated ball winner in the tougher games.

Song is thought to be settled in Barcelona, but with first team football very intermittent, he is thought to be assessing his options in the summer and United would be joined by Napoli as potential suitors.

United would prove favourites however, as Song entertains a desire to return to England, having spent several years with Arsenal before his move to Camp Nou.
