Reports coming out of England suggest, money bags Zenit St Petersburg are set beat competition from Premier League giants Liverpool to swoop for Basel player Mohamed Salah this January transfer window.

The young winger, who has been nicknamed the ‘Egyptian Messi’, has seen reputation grow after impressive performances for Basel in the UEFA Champions League. The 21-year old scored a goal against Chelsea to earn his team a famous victory at Stamford Bridge earlier in the campaign.

Liverpool have been hot on his trail for several months, and looked favorites to land their top target in the winter transfer window. However, with the Russian outfit set to double Liverpool’s offer, the balance has tilted in their favour.

With Champions League football to offer, the winger might prefer a move to Russia, however, Liverpool might have something to say as they look to strengthen their squad to break into the top four this season.
