Morgan Schneiderlin: Not concerned with Manchester United's recent goal drought

Morgan Schneiderlin signed for Manchester United during the summer from Southampton

Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has claimed that he’s not concerned about the team’s recent goal drought and believes they are still in a strong position to win the Premier League this season, club’s official website reported. The Red Devils have lost their third position to high-flying Leicester City following their 0-0 draw to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this weekend.

The 20-time English champions have been off-form and their misfiring strikers have been below par in recent games. This weekend’s goalless draw to Palace was their third successive blank and club manager Louis Van Gaal should be worried by his side’s lack of goals. They have now gone five hours without a goal, including the midweek Capital One Cup exit to Championship side Middlesbrough.

Despite rich attacking options with the likes of Anthony Martial, Memphis Depay, Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini, United are struggling in front of goal, but the French midfielder, who signed for the Manchester club during the summer for £24 million from Southampton, expects the goals to start flowing again soon and has warned Premier League not to rule them out of the title race as yet.

“It’s frustrating when you don’t win games,” he admitted.

“We have the players to score goals and we will score goals.”

“It’s not a worry for me. We’ve had the chances and sometimes it’s just a matter of taking the time to make a good choice.”

“It will come if we keep believing. We will keep clean sheets, that's not a problem, and we will win games, but we need to make sure it comes quickly.”

Scheniderlin reflects on the tough encounter with Palace

The Red Devils’ encounter with Palace was a frustrating one. The visiting side were denied of goal-scoring opportunities during the game. French youngster, Marital came close to giving his side the lead, but Alan Pardew’s well-organized defence did well to block his shot on goal.

“It was a game of two halves. We played against a very compact Crystal Palace team,” he added.

“We knew before the game they would be aggressive and that's what they were in the first half.”

“In the second half, they played more long balls and passed out from the back.”

“They won the first and second balls so it was hard because the ball didn't come at us every time.”

“It was one of those days when we needed to be strong. We are disappointed not to win. We came here to win the game so we need to make sure we win the next game.”

We want to win the title: Schneiderlin

With the weekend’s result, United are now 4 points adrift to league leaders Manchester City, but the former Southampton midfielder has stated his side will ‘bounce back’ and has insisted not to write them off from the title race as yet.

“We want to win the title so, to win games, we need to score goals,” he said.

“We'll have to work hard and hope we bounce back.”

“Of course we are in the title race. It's still early as we head into November, so there are a lot of games to be played.”

“It doesn't matter if you are second, third, fourth or fifth in November. What matters is to be first at the end of May and win the games.”
