Rummenigge’s words are sure to revive talks of Schweinsteiger’s exit from Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says Bastian Schweinsteiger is flattered by Manchester United’s interest in him, The Guardian reports. He also added that he would be meeting the midfielder over the weekend to discuss his future, but claims he is unsure where he would be playing next season.

“We spoke on the phone a few days ago. He will be back tomorrow and then we will talk,” Rummenigge told at a press conference held to unveil one of Bayern Munich’s new premium partners.

“I cannot deny the fact that I have understood during these conversations that he is flattered by the interest from England,” Rummenigge added.

Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola last week commented it was up to the player to decide on his future.

“I told him the future depends on you. If Schweinsteiger wants to stay here, that’s perfect. He is a top player,” Guardiola said.

Schweinsteiger seemed to put all speculation regarding his transfer to rest after claiming that he was looking forward to winning more trophies with the Bavarian club, especially a fourth German league title on the trot. The 30-year-old has been with Bayern Munich since 1998 and has an impressive collection of trophies which includes eight Bundesliga titles and the 2012-13 UEFA Champions League.

“I feel good and I’m ready to play for the next three years at the top level. We are three-time German champions. And I think no team has managed it four times. That’s a motivation,” Schweinsteiger was quoted as saying by German daily Die Welt at the end of June.

The Bayern chief’s words are sure to encourage United in making a concrete approach for Schweinsteiger. United manager Louis van Gaal coached the World Cup winner during his time at Bayern and is on the lookout for a defensive midfield option.

In fact, it was during the Dutch manager’s second spell in charge of Munich that Schweinsteiger was converted from a winger to his present position in the middle of the park, where he has proved to be a revelation earning the nickname Der Kommandant.

Bayern not interested in Di Maria: Rummenigge

The Bayern chief quashed all reports of Bayern’s supposed interest in Manchester United winger Angel di Maria regarding an outright purchase or a swap deal involving Schweinsteiger or Thomas Muller.

“That has never been our thinking and not Manchester United’s either,” Rummenigge told, according to The Guardian.
